The Dairy of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
Tragedy is forsaken and unwanted but yet it comes upon all of us, including the thirteen year old child Anne Frank. Tragedy is not something one wants, it something one wants to get away from. Anne Frank and her family did exactly that. They went into hiding to get away from tragedy that they knew was right around the corner. Tragedy to big to face and fight, knowing one will get defeated. Hiding was the only opposition to get away form the tragedy known as the Nazi. The Nazi killed and tortured many Jews and Anne's Family did not want to be the next victims. Tragedy was everywhere there was nowhere to turn. No matter where one goes tragedy will always be there. By hiding the family escaped some tragedy but not all. Since, they were in hiding they were struck with the fact that they could not go outside, open the windows during the day, or talk loudly. The hardship of their lives was just beginning. The Frank's, the Van Daan's and Mr. Dussel would live life like this every day for more than two years. Each day hardship fell on them, some not as rough as others. One day they would have bread then the next rotten milk and lettuce. As time went on tragedy and hardship was normal and was expected everyday. Tragedy was sometimes unexpected and hard to handle. For example break ins were common in the warehouse where the Secret Annex was. One night they were all quietly getting ready for bed when Peter heard a noise from the warehouse. He went and told Mr.Frank and the two of them, Mr. Van Daan and Mr.Dussel went down to have look. In Anne's Dairy it states "Margot, Mother, Mrs. Van Daan and I waited. Four frightened women needed to talk, so that's what we did until we heard a bang downstairs...the color drained from our faced, but we remained clam, even though we were afraid"(Frank 253). When the men came back up no one was hurt and they told the story to the panicked women. The loud bang was the buglers hitting the panel off the left hand door. Mr. Van Daan then yelled "police", and the buglers ran off with their sugar. This situation could have gone tragically. Somebody could have got killed and the bang could have been a gun shot. All the tragedy that has accrued in their lives should be turned into a source of strength.
